“And I will make them, and the places around My hill, a blessing; and I will bring down the shower in its season. There shall be showers of blessing.” (Ezekiel 34:26)
Ezekiel is prophesying about the Covenant of Peace to come, which Jesus established for us and which the people of Israel will come to participate in, although not at the moment. This covenant is for them also as Paul wrote in Romans that God did not exclude them from the Covenant of Peace. (Romans 11:2) “And so all Israel shall be saved; as it is written, "There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob. For this is My covenant with them, when I have taken away their sins." (Romans 11:26-27)
God makes a promise to Israel in Ezekiel. They will be a blessing to the world. This is a promise He made to Abraham and He is reaffirming it in Ezekiel. “And I will make you a great nation. And I will bless you and make your name great. And you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those that bless you and curse the one who curses you. And in you shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 12:2-3)
Then at God’s appointed time, He will cause “the shower” to come down. He explains it in the next sentence. This shower is a multitude of showers of blessing. The shower is an event that will include many showers. It was the coming of the Messiah. This is the event that has brought blessings to the world including the people of Israel. Those who have accepted Jesus as their Messiah. John Gill the Bible commentator writes that these are God’s spiritual gifts and gifts that come with the grace God has poured out such as “spiritual blessings, blessings of grace, such as peace, pardon, righteousness, and eternal life...” These are gifts we are enjoying now because of Jesus.
Although there are many Messianic Jews, Jewish people who have believed and worship their Messiah, Israel as a whole doesn’t believe in Jesus yet. There will be a time coming when they will. Paul wrote: “For I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, lest you should be wise within yourselves; that blindness in part has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the nations has comes in. And so all Israel shall be saved; as it is written, "There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.” (Romans 11:25-26) God has an appointed time for the fullness of the nations to come. It’s the time God has ordained when all those who will believe on Him will believe. I know that I quote quite often that God sees the end from the beginning, but that is why Paul has said when the fullness of the nations has come. There are still people who are to accept God’s gift of grace and believe on Jesus. And when all those who are to come to Him have done so, then Israel’s eyes will be open to understand the Gospel and accept Jesus as their Messiah.
We can pray for the salvation of Israel, even though it’s a done deal. God has declared it, and God sees them saved at the end. We can pray for eyes to be opened, for their understanding of the Gospel and their salvation to come. There are Jews in this time of grace for the Gentiles (non-Jews) who are coming even now to Jesus. Praise God! He is so merciful to all who will turn to Him. He gives them understanding and grace. And they are enjoying the shower of blessings Ezekiel prophesied about.
Jeremiah also prophesied about the coming time of Israel’s salvation. “ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
What is even more wonderful is that in the reign of Jesus, the nation of Israel will be pivotal in the blessing of the nations. Jesus will rule and all of the promises made to Israel will be fulfilled. “The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.” (Psalms 110:2) Isaiah prophesied that during this time there would be a highway so that people from every nation can come to the city where Jesus reigns when they are saved. “And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” (Isaiah 35:8-10) Of course although the Scripture is clear, we still cannot imagine how this will be because it’s only a part of what will be.
In short, all of Israel will be saved. Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel and other prophets have prophesied it. God has always and will fulfill all the prophesies concerning Israel. For a time, the time of the Gentiles, they cannot understand the Gospel, but when all the Gentiles from the nations that are to receive Jesus as Lord are saved, then the eyes of their understanding will be opened and all of Israel will be saved, although some are already saved and have made Jesus their Lord and Savior. Israel will be blessed and honored in the Thousand Year Reign of Christ.
