“Do not fear; for I am with you; be not dismayed; for I am your God. I will make you strong; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.” (Isaiah 41:10)
This is part of Isaiah’s prophecy over many chapters which cover many topics, but the main one is about the Lord. He extols God’s greatness, His comfort, then prophesies about the uselessness of worshipping idols, a prophecy about Jesus, Israel’s failure to hear, the Lord’s condemnation of Israel, about Cyrus and so on. In our Scripture of study Isaiah is prophesying about God’s comfort for the people.
He prophesies, “do not fear.” It’s interesting that the words “do not fear” are recorded as the Lord having said “do not fear” seventy times. And Scripture alluding to not fearing 365 times. Fear is the most paralyzing factor in our lives. As Christians and believers in the Lord Jesus, fear is the result of doubt, doubt in the Word of the Lord and doubt in the Lord. Even if the sky is falling upon us, we should have no fear because the Lord is in us and with us. What happens to us whether good or bad is allowed by the Lord. If death occurs it will only bring us closer to being in the presence of the Lord, face to face. If we are enjoying good days, that’s the blessing of the Lord. We are in the Lord and He is in us. This is the Lord God, Creator and the One all will give account to. Why should we fear? He is our heavenly Father Who loves us and has the best for us.
He reassures us in this Scripture that He is with us. We walk around encompassed by His presence and surrounded by angels. If a bullet or an arrow should penetrate that hedge of protection, God allowed it for His purposes. It’s a test of our faith. “My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into different kinds of temptations, knowing that the trying of your faith works patience.” (James 1:2-3) Will we cry and give up as whinny babies? Will anger and bitterness overcome us? Or will praise arise for God’s supernatural help so that He will demonstrate His might and be glorified?
The Lord promises, “I will make you strong.” Do you think you will crumble under the attack. You will be surprised in how strong you will be. This strength comes from the Lord. It is a supernatural strength that you will know is not yours. “He gives power to the weary; and to him with no vigor; He increases strength.” (Isaiah 40:29) This is the Lord’s doing. He gives us the spirit of power when we need it. “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2Timothy 1:7) And you can say with Paul, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
We are promised His help. When we are weak, He is strong for us. Paul records what the Lord spoke to Him. “And He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may overshadow me. Therefore I am pleased in weaknesses, in insults, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am powerful.” (2Corinthians 12:9-10) In time of need, we can go to the Thone of the Father. From Him comes all help. “Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16) His Throne is a place of mercy. He says, “Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke on you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) The eternal words of Jesus reverberate at the Throne.
He promises to uphold us with the right hand of His righteousness. It is Jesus. Jesus is His right hand of righteousness. Jesus will uphold us, help and keep us standing in the fray and test of your faith. For Jesus has conquered the world. “I have spoken these things to you so that you might have peace in Me. In the world you shall have tribulation but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) Nothing that comes against us can prosper or be successful against us.
So, what do we fear? Believe His Word and walk in victory. Believe what the Lord has said and has promised. Don’t accept the lies the enemy will speak to your mind. Believe the Word and speak the Word.
