“Yea, they shall sing in the ways of Jehovah; for great is the glory of Jehovah.” (Psalms 138:5)

Who is David talking about in this psalm? “They” are the kings of the earth according to the previous verse. “All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O Jehovah, when they hear the Words of Your mouth.” (Psalms 138:4) David is prophesying about the reign of Jesus. It is then that the rulers of the nations will praise Him. “All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to Jehovah; and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. For the kingdom is Jehovah's; and He is the ruler among the nations.” (Psalms 22:27-28) A few other Scriptures that prophesy that the nations will turn to Jesus: Isaiah 60:3; Zechariah 8:20-23; Malachi 1:11 and Revelation 15:4.

In this Scripture David says they will sing as they go along in their journey in life because of the greatness of the glory of the Lord. We cannot imagine how glorious His reign will be. He will be the light that will illuminate the New Jerusalem. “And the city lies four-square, and the length is as large as the breadth. And he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand stadia. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.” (Revelation 21:16) It’s 1,400 miles long, wide, and high. This is almost as big as the United States. And it’s also 1,400 miles high. ...unimaginable! And the glory of the Lord will give it light. “And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they might shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.” (Revelation 21:23)

David many times in writing his psalms would be anointed of the Lord and write prophesy. He does this in this psalm. The glory of the Lord will be such that one will not be able to be quiet about His glory. “All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name. For You are great and do wonderful things; You alone are God.” (Psalms 86:9-10)

We as children of God do not have to wait until His glory is revealed at the end of time to sing and worship Him. His glory has already been revealed to us in the miracles He has done in our hearts and in our lives. To attend church on Sunday is one of the Ten Commandments. We were not offered an option. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work. But the seventh day is the Sabbath of Jehovah your God. You shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger within your gates. For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, Jehovah blessed the Sabbath day and sanctified it.” (Exodus 20:8-11) Has God shone you His glory? Has He changed your heart in unbelievable ways? Has He changed your life in unbelievable ways? He has then shone you His glory. Sing of His glory.

Lots of people come late to church. I’ve heard that after all, it’s just singing. But it’s not merely singing. It’s worship. It’s a holy time. When the congregation worships, God’s presence comes on the scene. His presence is almost palpable. If you have your hands raised, you feel the weight of His Presence. “Who shall go up into the hill of Jehovah? Or who shall stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity and has not sworn deceitfully.” (Psalms 24:3-4) We cannot stand in His Presence because of our flesh which is not redeemed. When His presence is manifested, and it’s manifested a tiny bit because we would not be able to stand, we will feel the weight of His glory. If you have ever been in such a heavenly time of worship, you will yearn for more of the Lord.

So, what happens in worship? “For having been drawn to Him, a living Stone, indeed rejected by men, but elect, precious with God; you also as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1Peter 2:4-5) Peter speaks of Jesus as a living Stone, who in another place says He is the corner stone, on which the foundation of the church is built. “Therefore, also it is contained in the Scripture: "Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner Stone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him shall never be ashamed." (1Peter 2:6) And we are also living stones, an altar or a temple made of a holy priesthood offering in worship spiritual sacrifices which are acceptable to God. God accepts the spiritual sacrifice made in corporate worship. This is why worship time is most important in our services. It’s not something to miss. Get to church early and prepare yourself to offer the spiritual sacrifice of praise which God accepts.

In essence, the rulers and nations of the earth will worship the Lord when they actually see His glory. But we are privileged to have been changed by His glory. We experience His glorious Presence in worship.
