“For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be glory forever! Amen.” (Romans 11:36)

This was Paul’s closing verse in his letter to the Romans. What exactly does it mean? The key word “of” denotes origin. Jesus is the origin of all things. “Jehovah has made all for His purpose; yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.” (Proverbs 16:4) The Godhead, which is the Father, the Son Who is Jesus and the Holy Spirit were all present at the beginning of creation. The mystery of the Trinity is something we will have to wait until we get to heaven to understand three persons in One God. There are other verses that tell us Jesus was not only present at creation but created all things. He is the origin of all things created. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being.” (John 1:1-3) And Paul wrote to the Colossians, “For all things were created in Him, the things in the heavens, and the things on the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers, all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:16-17) In this verse Paul puts forth the concept that not only were all things created by Him, but they were created through Him and for Him. Again, supporting the fact that Jesus is the origin of all things.

Paul mentioned in Colossians that all things were created through Him as he also did in his closing verse to the Romans. But through Him is not the original translation. The word “by” was used. The Greek word that Paul used means “was the channel of creation.” It can also mean “because of” or “by.” The ancient translators preferred the word “by.” Whereas the translators of the Modern King James version preferred “through.” Paul wrote something similar to the Corinthians. “...but there is to us only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we by Him.” (1Corinthians 8:6) Again Paul drives in the Truth that Jesus is the Creator the origin of all things created but all things are subject to Him.

We are in God by Jesus. This speaks of the redemptive work of Jesus. We can only be in God because of Jesus, because He took our punishment, because He took our guilt, because His suffering, death and shed blood made us guiltless and pure. Because of Jesus, we can be in God. Jesus is the channel, the door, the gate and the way to the Father. And only through Jesus can we be in God. “Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me.” (John 14:6)

In summary, only He, the Lord God is worthy of praise and worship. All things were made by Him, for Him and through Him. Anything that has substance came from Him. And it is because of Jesus that we will be restored in God.

Let us pray:

Father God since the beginning of time when the earth was created You desired for Your children to be in You and You in us. I don’t fully understand all of that Lord, but I know that it is the best place for me. I know that many things Jesus spoke of were about the realm of heaven which we cannot begin to understand. I thank You that through the Holy Spirit, Father You are in me because You are One, One with Jesus and One with the Holy Spirit. And just like You are One, You desire for me  to be one with You. I thank You that in Jesus and through Jesus this is possible. I know I cannot be worthy of this on my account, but I thank You that Your mercy through the redemptive work of Jesus, this has been provided. I am grateful for all the benefits of the redemption, to be found guiltless of any sin, pure and holy, Your child with all the inheritance of Jesus, glorified in Jesus and eternally in You. In the Name of Jesus I pray, amen.
