Jesus, the Light

“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” (Revelation 21:23)
This is going to be something to behold. There will be no sun, no moon and no stars to provide light. The light will come from Jesus. It’s strange how we can just read over Scripture without understanding nor explore what God is saying to us. Isaiah prophesied, “Then the moon shall blush, and the sun shall be ashamed, when Jehovah of Hosts shall reign in Mount Zion, in Jerusalem, and gloriously before His elders.” (Isaiah 24:23) This will happen when Jesus returns to reign on earth. He will come in His glory with all the angels to rule and reign. “Therefore, whoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My Words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man shall also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:38) This is the Second Coming, not the Rapture where He comes in the clouds, but does not set foot on earth. Jesus will return to earth in glory with His angels and all the saints, all those raptured before. “And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied to these, saying, Behold, the Lord came with myriads of His saints, to do judgment against all, and to rebuke all the ungodly of them concerning all their ungodly works which they ungodly did, and concerning all the hard things ungodly sinners spoke against Him.” (Jude 1:14-15) And we will be dressed in white. “And He had been clothed in a garment dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in Heaven followed Him on white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.” (Revelation 19:13-14)
John in his Gospel tells us in the very first chapter that Jesus is the light. “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” (John 1:6-9) John tells us two things about Jesus. Jesus is the light. And Jesus lights every man that is born. It’s interesting that science has now discovered that people give off light. John told us that in the first century. We should not be surprised. It’s taken science twenty centuries to find out scientifically what God revealed to John over two thousand years ago. BBC Science Focus Magazine reports “All humans emit subtle light until they die, study suggests.” Of course, the light is given to the spirit. So, when the person dies, the spirit is no longer residing in the carcass. It’s gone to live in eternity with God or without God.
Studying further about Jesus, we find that those who do not believe in Him reject the light giving source. “He came to His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, He gave to them authority to become the children of God, to those who believe on His name, who were born, not of bloods, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but were born of God.” (John 1:11-13) All men have the light. But only those who believe in Him are born of God and become the children of God. God’s world is more amazing and wonderful than we can imagine. As people living here on this limited world with our limited minds, we have difficulty understanding many things. They are too wonderful for us to understand.
Concluding, the Lord God's world, our Father’s world is glorious and incomprehensible to us. We read it and believe it, but we don’t fully understand all the glorious world of God. Whatever we imagine, it is nothing like it will be. And we will be part of that glory. We will be where Jesus is. “Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall ever be with the Lord.” (1Thessalonians 4:17) That is our comfort. That is our hope. And that is our consuming joy. “...And so, we shall ever be with the Lord.”
Let us pray:
Father God, how wonderful is Your kingdom. Thank You for giving me just a glimpse and even then, I don't fully know nor understand its beauty and its wonder. I grasp, in my limited knowledge and understanding, to Your promises and to the peeks You have revealed. And they are too glorious to even imagine. I believe You Lord. And I believe Your Word without full understanding because You have never failed. Your Word is Truth. And You do not lie. The Word that You have spoken from the beginning has come to pass. And what is yet to come, will come for sure. I wait believing in faith what You have revealed, Your purposes, the coming of Jesus, the fulfillment of all Your promises and the consummation of Your will. In the Name of Jesus I pray, amen.
