“But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, each man to sharpen his plowshare, and his mattock, and his axe, and his coulter.” (1Samuel 13:20)

After the Israelites were in the Promised Land, they were ruled by judges and not kings. But the people wanted a king like all the other lands. (1Samuel 8:5) God anointed Saul to be their king, but at the time, the Israelites were under the rule of the Philistines. (1Samuel 9:1-10:26) The Philistines didn’t allow them to sharpen their tools for fear they would make weapons. (1Samuel 13:19) If they wanted their tool sharpened, they had to go the Philistines and pay them to sharpen their tools (1Samuel 13:21) When the time came for, in actuality God’s perfect time, for the Israelites to rise up, led by King Saul and fight the Philistines, they didn’t have weapons. “And it happened in the day of battle there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people with Saul and Jonathan. But with Saul and with his son Jonathan there was found sword and spear.” (1Samuel 13:22) And we learn that God derailed the Philistines. “And Jehovah saved Israel that day, and the battle passed over to Beth-aven.” (1Samuel 14:23)

How can we not trust God, the Lord God Almighty? Even when we are without resources, such as the Israelites were, God wins the victory for us. He makes us victorious and winners.  “For everything that has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.” (1John 5:4) It’s our faith in God, not in ourselves. In whatever battle we are struggling with, know that God with us will overcome and conqueror, no matter the odds. This is when the Lord is glorified for Who He is, the Only Mighty One!

Will our bodies hurt? Will our minds be bombarded with unbiblical thoughts? Will we have the urge to quit? Will we be tempted? Yes! It’s the enemy. How he would love to hear our mouths confess that we can’t do it. But our mouths will be filled with faith. “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) “But in all these things we more than conquer through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39) “But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1Corinthians 15:57) “He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that dying to sins, we might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed.” (1Peter 2:24) Choose your Scripture. Believe God. Depend on Him. Hold on to it. It’s a treasure of God’s assurance. It’s His promise for us and to us. He is faithful and will fulfill it. Nothing is impossible with Him.

Many times, we believe, but we cancel the promise with words filled with doubt. We need to watch our mouths and our words. “But what does it say? "The Word is near you, even in your mouth and in your heart"; that is, the Word of Faith which we proclaim;” (Romans 10:8). God sees the end from the beginning. If you believe God for the victory, proclaim it! Proclaim the end from the beginning. “I am victorious!” “I am healed!” “I am abundantly supplied!” “I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10) You are speaking what God sees in the end. Don’t allow your words to betray you. We are God’s children, children of the Almighty God, Creator of all. We are children of the supernatural great God, our Lord. Let’s act like it.

In summary, believe God. He is great and mighty and will cause us to be victorious in everything if we believe. It’s called faith. And faith in His supernatural help pleases Him. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6) Do you have faith enough to put God’s Word on the spot? Or are you afraid that it’s foolishness to proclaim faith? In truth that’s what it amounts to.
