“And I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.” (Genesis 9:15)
This is the agreement between Noah and God, “between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh.” Notice that God said, “I will remember...” He did not leave the remembering to us. We forget. But God said, “I will remember...” He does not forget. The Lord remembers every one of the promises He has made with man.
Throughout the Bible, God has made certain promises. He made a promise to Moses, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” (Exodus 12:13) The plague passed over the Israelites because of the blood. Today, we have a New Covenant. It’s a covenant established by the Blood of the Lamb of God. “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace;” (Ephesians 1:7) God sees the blood of Jesus and judgement for sin, d eath, passes over us. “For this is My blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matthew 26:28) He remembers His covenant.
Are you troubled in your soul (mind, will, emotions)? Jesus made a promise for your soul. “Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:29) He tells us to share the burden with Him and learn because of Him. In Jesus we can have peace instead of turmoil and confusion. He can lead us seeing as we’re yoked together, and He is stronger and wiser than us. Allow Him to determine the way. There is a confidence when the burden is off us. Panic is gone in the rest of the Lord.
Did you fail to keep your promise to the Lord? Did you fail Him again and again? He tells you, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:9) God knows all things. He knows our weaknesses. And yet He made beautiful and marvelous promises to us. God revealed to Paul His encouraging Word. “And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2Corinthians 12:9) Whatever our weakness is, whether physical or other, God has promised to be there with His grace. It's when we can’t that God can. That’s when God can glorify Himself, when we are out of His way. That’s when we will see His powerful Hand at work.
Our vile human understanding of God is limited. “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) If Christ gave His life while we were yet sinners, would He abandon us now that we are children of God? It makes no sense. He does even more by completing the work that God has begun in us. “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” (Philippians 1:6) Yes, we may fail, over and over, but Christ is working in us to bring us to perfection. He will not give up nor fail. It’s a done deal, He “will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ,” until He comes for us.
“For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” (2Corinthians 1:20) And we put ourselves in agreement with Him, with His Covenant and bind ourselves to it. And we don’t have to remember all His promises because He remembers them all. And although we may fail, He does not fail. His grace continues to work in us and for us. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) God works in all things.
