The Fairest of the Sons of Man

“You are the fairest of the sons of men; grace is poured into Your lips; therefore, God has blessed You forever.” (Psalms 45:2)

This Scripture is prophetic of Jesus. It’s about God but makes reference of being the fairest of the sons of men, in other words, humans. Only Jesus is all man and all God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word became flesh, and tabernacled among us. And we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and of truth.” (Joh 1:1, 14) The fairest means beautiful. Jesus is more beautiful of all men to the Father and to those who believe in Him. He is attractive in that He pursues and draws all men to Him. “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost until he finds it?” (Luke 15:4) He is excellent. “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” (Colossians 2:9) The Amplified Bible reads, “For in Him all the fullness of Deity (the Godhead) dwells in bodily form [completely expressing the divine essence of God].”

Beautiful also means Jesus is magnificent, meaning great and wonderful and unfathomable, boundless and profound. Paul wrote to the Ephesians about how he was given grace to preach the Gospel of the unsearchable riches of Christ. “This grace is given to me (who am less than the least of all saints) to preach the gospel of the unsearchable riches of Christ among the nations,” (Ephesians 3:8).

Grace flows from and is contained in His lips. It’s His Word. “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that having denied ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live discreetly, righteously and godly, in this present world,” (Titus 2:11-12). It’s His Word that teaches us to deny ungodliness, worldly lusts, to live discreetly, righteously and godly in this world. It’s grace, God’s unmerited favor, that is in His lips and spoken to us in His Word.

Because Jesus withstood temptation and the way of the world in his humanness, but chose and followed the Spirit, He is blessed forever. Forever means eternally. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ;” (Ephesians 1:3) Not only is Jesus blessed eternally in the heavenlies, but all who believe in Jesus are blessed in Him and with Him. Jesus has this promise, and we have that promise in Jesus.

What this means to us is that Jesus, our leader, our Lord, is who we follow. We are to do as He did. We are to choose to live by the Spirit and obey the Spirit. “But those belonging to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:24-25) Let us walk in the Spirit as Jesus did, choosing rather than pleasing the flesh, pleasing God. We, who have believed and who follow Jesus are to be “holy and without blame before Him in love.” “Therefore girding up the loins of your mind, being sober, perfectly hope for the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance, but according to the Holy One who has called you, you also become holy in all conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." (1Peter 1:13-16)

We are commanded to be holy, set apart from the world for God, for His purposes and for His Will in this world. This gives us much to think about. How is my life in line with God’s Will and purposes? What am I doing that is pleasing Him, not what I want to do for Him, but what He wants me to participate in that furthers His kingdom and is His Will and purpose for me? We cannot go nilly-willy and do what we want. We belong to Him. “...for you are bought with a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.” (1Corinthians 6:20) Therefore it is super important that we fellowship with the Holy Spirit and know what God is asking of us. Maybe you feel God’s given you a vision, but your life is far from it. You are privileged to know the end. But that end may take years of preparation in us and in circumstances. Where we are at the moment must be viewed as a time of growth in the Lord, in knowledge and obedience.  It’s like the bridegroom who is preparing for his marriage and is waiting for his father to say when the time is right. Only the Father knows when the time is right for the completion of the vision, when we are ready to carry out our mission.

This isn’t for a special few. This is for all of us! We all have a purpose to fulfill in God’s Will. All of us were bought by the blood of the Lamb of God. All of us are called to be holy, set apart for God’s purposes. This changes what we do day in and day out. This changes what we think about our future plans. We must consult with the Lord for our every step.  We belong to Him. We don’t belong to ourselves. That is what it means when the Word of God says that we are obedient children, holy, and living in and walking in the Spirit.

In summary, Jesus is the fairest, the most beautiful of all the sons of man. He showed how we should live. He is our captain. “For it became Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons into glory, to perfect the Captain of their salvation through sufferings.” (Hebrews 2:10) We are to be holy, set apart for God’s purposes and live and walk in the Spirit.
