“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” (Ephesians 1:3).
Blessed be God Almighty. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9) We can speculate as to why God is so good to us. We will never fully know His love, His mercy and His goodness toward us. It’s too wonderful for us to know or to understand. We can only be thankful. We can imagine it’s the Father’s love for Jesus and the price of our redemption. But even before the creation of the world, He loved us.
He created a paradise and gave it to man. (Genesis 1:26) And even in our rebellion and betrayal, God made a way for us to be with Him. He banished man from the garden lest he eat of the fruit of the tree of life, forever live in condemnation and forever be apart from Him. There would be a way for man to be redeemed. And after about 4,000 years, God’s appointed, and perfect time came.
So perfect was God’s timing, the enemy was stupefied even if he knew that time was coming. No assault he planned derailed God’s plan. God spoke it. And it was done. Man was redeemed to choose who he would follow. The Father provided all man needed to know Him. He put in our hearts a special place for His abode that would yearn for Him and that only He can satisfy. He wrote the Gospel in the sky and left His signature in creation. “For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” (Romans 1:20)
And to those who believe, He gives them the ability to become sons of God, to sonship with all the heavenly blessings. We can’t even imagine what they are. “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13) These are those who are born again, not of this flesh, but born of God as He is, in spirit, reborn to a new life, an eternal life in Jesus and with our Father.
There is so much to learn about our Scripture, but let’s revel in His goodness that’s behind this Scripture. We always see the Scriptures from our benefit. But Ephesians 1:3 is an expression of God’s pleasure. It was and is His will to bless us. There is no higher blessing than to be a child of God. It’s beyond anything worldly. But we live so far below our inheritance. Imagine the Lord God Creator and our Father saying, “Children, why are you wallowing in the mud? Come and be washed. Put on your royal garments. Rule and reign as children of the Most High. You have all that I have given you in your lips. My creative power is yours to use. Speak my Word. My Word is a two-edged sword and able to conquer and dispel the darkness wherever you encounter it. You are royalty, in Me and Me in you.”
We don’t realize the greatness of what God has done for us. Paul prayed, “Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is His body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all.” (Ephesians 1:15-23) And the wonderful thing is that we are there with Him. What are “the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints?” We can’t imagine, but Paul wrote the following to the Romans, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:16-17) Yes, we suffer with Him, but we are also glorified together with Him. His goodness is beyond what we can imagine here on earth.
