“He stood and measured the earth; He looked and shook nations, and the everlasting mountains were shattered; the eternal hills bowed down. His ways are everlasting.” (Habakkuk 3:6)

This is part of Habakkuk’s prayer in which he exalts the Lord for His works. This is prophetic in part which describes what will happen when Jesus returns to earth in His Second Coming. “And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man shall appear in the heavens. And then all the tribes of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of the heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” (Matthew 24:29-31) In this verse, we see the rapture of Jewish believers. They are the “elect” of God. Those who have believed during the Great Tribulation will be snatched up before the destruction of the earth. “And it shall be, in that day Jehovah shall thresh from the stream of the river Euphrates to the torrent of Egypt, and you shall be gathered one by one, O sons of Israel. And it shall be, in that day the great ram's horn shall be blown, and those perishing in the land of Assyria shall come, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt shall come and shall worship Jehovah in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 27:12-13) During the Great Tribulation there will be a revival among the Jews with the preaching of the 144,000 Jewish evangelists. “And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousands, having been sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel.” They will probably be martyred by the Antichrist. “And I looked, and lo, the Lamb stood on Mount Zion. And with Him were a hundred and forty-four thousands, having His Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from Heaven, like the voice of many waters and like the voice of a great thunder. And I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps. And they sang as it were a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. And no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousands who were redeemed from the earth. These are those who were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, as a firstfruit to God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile, for they were without blemish before the throne of God.” (Revelation 14:1-5) They are the Jewish first fruit.

Habakkuk then adds to this verse, “His ways are everlasting.”  What are exactly God’s ways? Who can know it? Isaiah wrote God’s Words on the subject, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor your ways My ways, says Jehovah.” (Isaiah 55:8) I don’t think that we can truly know God’s ways. He’s allowed us a tiny glimpse. But I don’t think our worldly intellect could understand fully God’s ways.

The Lord has given us just enough knowledge of Him to fear Him, love Him and worship Him. In heaven He is still revealing Himself to all the spiritual beings and the elders in the heavenlies. His creation is eternal. The knowledge of Him everlasting. The exact translation of the word everlasting is “time (past or future) out of mind, the vanishing point and eternity without end.” We get a peek of what is happening in heaven. As the Lord God is forever revealing Himself, the whole of heaven worships Him. “And around the throne I saw twenty-four thrones. And on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white clothing. And they had crowns of gold on their heads. And out of the throne came lightnings and thunderings and voices. And seven lamps of fire were burning in front of the throne, which are the seven spirits of God. And a sea of glass was in front of the throne, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind. And the first living creature was like a lion, and the second living creature like a calf, and the third living creature had the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like a flying eagle. And each one of the four living creatures had six wings about him, and within being full of eyes. And they had no rest day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, the Almighty, who was and is and is to come. And whenever the living creatures gave glory and honor and thanks to Him who sat on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fell down before the One sitting on the throne. And they worshiped Him who lives for ever and ever, and threw their crowns before the throne, saying, O Lord, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because You created all things, and for Your will they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:4-11) We have knowledge only of the creation we can see of the earth and the heavens. But the Lord is so much greater.

In conclusion, the things to come, in spite of the fact that they not only sound, but are frightening and terrifying, the church and Jewish believers will be in the bosom of our God in Jesus worshipping Him and only knowing His Goodness and mercy which He has gifted us because He is Mercy. He is Love. And He is Good.

Let us pray.

Father God, You are wonderful in all of Your ways. The little I know astounds me and I can only worship You. I am in awe of You and how great Your love is for me. Thank You Lord that I rest in Your mighty shadow under Your wing of protection and love. You keep me for blessing because I am in Jesus, the Beloved and my Lord and Savior. Continue to show me Your ways, to reveal Your greatness to me. You are good beyond measure. Make my steps sure and guided in Your Will for me. Lead me in Your righteousness that You may be glorified and exalted above all that is in the world and beyond. Your plans revealed to us are only the tip of Your greatness and Your wisdom. You are merciful to me. And I am grateful. Let all that I say, do and think glorify You. In the Name of Jesus I pray, amen.
