“For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power:” (Colossians 2:9-10).
Jesus in His incarnation was all God because He is God. Jesus said several times, “I and My Father are one.” (John 10:30) Philip asked to be shown the Father. “Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known Me, Philip? he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of Myself: but the Father that dwelleth in Me, he doeth the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me: or else believe Me for the very works' sake.” (John 14:9-11) Jesus was saying that He is God and part of the Godhead, the Holy Trinity. He was there at creation. “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:16-17)
When we believed on Him and accepted Him as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit came to dwell in us. God is in us. And we are in God. In Jesus we are “complete.” We are furnished, perfectly supplied and fulfilled in Jesus. “But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, Who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” (1Corinthians 1:30-31) The greatness of this Truth is unrealized in most Christians. It’s hard to rise up as children of the Creator with God living in us and empowering us to live as kings and priests here on this earth, confronting every darkness that encroaches near us just as Jesus did. Immediately, in an adverse situation, our flesh takes control and our soul (mind, will and emotions) react in the flesh with fear, curse words (by that I mean every word that is unscriptural and not what God would say) and doubt. And if we should act in faith and we allow the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish God’s will, we think it’s because of us. We think we had anything to do with God’s work. Let’s not touch His glory. As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:31, “... He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.”
We have no understanding of the great work that Jesus did for us and in us. “And of His fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” (John 1:16) If we think we are special, we are, but it has nothing to do with anything we have done. It’s all God. It’s all because of His love, His mercy and His grace given to us. We are merely vessels, in which God is working His will here on this earth, should we hear and should we obey. “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” (2Corinthians 4:7) That fullness, that power of God is in us and for us to do God’s will. When I realize this, I also realize how terribly I have failed Him.
Jesus is the One Who now sits at the right hand of the Father in glory. He walked and suffered like us on this earth. But now He is exalted. “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11)
