LESSON 15
Created for Spiritual Communion
Today we will talk more about the devotional, your time alone with God in the mornings.
Why will it be so important to have those daily devotional moments? There are three important reasons:
-
To help accomplish the worthiest purposes of God
-
To follow the example of the Lord
-
To gain spiritual strength.
To begin we will study the first reason, in order to achieve the most worthy purposes of God.
Man was created with the ability to enjoy spiritual communion with God. We were created in God's image so that we could have the honor and privilege of communicating with God. None of God's creation has that honor and privilege. The human being can enjoy this amazing privilege. This fellowship with God is a great calling.

"God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord." (1Corinthians 1:9)

The second reason for having your devotional is to follow the example of the Lord. Jesus never let His busy schedule prevent Him from setting aside time to pray alone.

"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." (Mark 1:35)

The busier He was, the more He sought to be alone with His Father. And so it is with us. The busier we are, the more we need to spend time with Him. We need His peace more and His direction more.

"But so much the more went there a fame abroad of Him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. And He withdrew Himself into the wilderness, and prayed." (Luke 5:15-16)

We can see that His priority was spending time with His Father. So it should be with us. Martin Luther, the great reformer said "I have so much to do today, that I must start the day by spending at least two hours to be alone with God." He knew that he needed more from God the more he had to do.

The third reason to have this devotional time is to gain spiritual strength. Why do we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner daily? ...to have the physical strength to do the things we have to do. So it is in the spiritual.
The Word of God is called the Bread of Life. It is food for our spirit. If we want to have strong spirits we have to feed them with the Word of God and His Presence daily. Don't be fooled into thinking that you can pursue a life in the Lord without spending time in God's Word and in His Presence.

"Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." (Job 23:12)

"But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4)

We must live by all the Word that comes out of the mouth of God. We must prioritize a time in the Presence of God and in His Word. Remember that it is important to know how much sleep you need in order to plan ahead to be awake for your quiet time. The Word of God in our mouth is so important. King Solomon, the wisest person on the earth wrote this:
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." (Proverbs 18:21)

I hope you have more understanding of why your quiet time with the Lord is so important.
