Before Jesus, no one could escape the death that sin brings. It is eternal death and torment. Man was hopelessly unable to save himself from his sin nature and the consequences that brought. But God's marvelous gift, Jesus and His work on the Cross, paid the price for our sin, death. He took death for us. So now we can live eternally. But His gift has to be received and accepted. He offers it to us free. We cannot earn it. We don't deserve it. But God's Goodness and Love offers us this wonderful gift of life.

Here is another Scripture that tells us about God's Love and eternal gift: "For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
